Partnership between Juma Al Majid Center and American Ford Foundation to keep African manuscripts

Juma Al Majid Center for Culture & Heritage received the day before yesterday Mrs. Margi Johnson Rayce, the Office Manger of Ford Foundation in West Africa, accompanied by Mr. Abdel Kader Haidarah the Head of Mema Haidarah Library in Timbuktu in Mali.

The delegation toured throughout the departments of the center especially Manuscripts Restoration Department, then they met H. H. Mr. Juma Al Majid in his office and they discussed the state of manuscripts and restoring them in West Africa and working together to protect them from loss, and they agreed to adopt Juma Al Majid Center as a party for qualifying and training the technical cadres to restore and keep manuscripts, books and documents through establishing Manuscript Restoration Academy in Africa.

It is to be mentioned that Juma Al Majid Center established last year Timbuktu Manuscripts Restoration Center in Mali and supplied it with one lab for restoration and another one for digital manuscripts. In that time John Nagrobontee, American Deputy Foreign Minister, visited Juma Al Majid Center in Timbuktu and he expressed his admiration about the center and the equipment which were supplied by Juma al Majid Center to keep the valuable manuscripts of this city in which some of them returned to 7th H. century.
