Preservation , Processing & Restoration Department

 

 

This department was established in August 1992, the main aim of this department is :

1-Maintaining the materials made of paper such as ( manuscripts, prints, documents, newspapers, magazines and maps).

2-Providing these services to the governmental and private institutions, and individuals inside the U. A. E. and abroad.

3-Organizing specialized courses in the field of restoration and maintenance at various international, local and regional levels, as well as organizing exhibitions related to books and manuscripts.

This department contains the following sections

 

Manuscripts Restoration section

This section is concerned with sterilizing injured manuscripts by  chemical treatment, repairing damaged manuscripts technically and binding them by using covers of Islamic design in a way that befitting their dates of publishing, finally manufacturing all kinds of cases for keeping documents, books and manuscripts.

 

Prints Repairing Section

This section was established in October 1999, it is concerned with sterilizing all kinds of prints from the biological injuries and treating them chemically from acidity, breaking and dark colors, and then repairing them by using modern mechanical means.

 

 

 

Modern Binding Section  

This section is responsible for binding all varieties of books using the latest techniques such as natural leather, synthetic cover and cardboard, repairs the covers of  the old books and manufactures all kinds of cases for books and collections.

 

Extracting Pure Cellulosed Fibers Section

Established in October 1999, it extracts pure cellulosed fibers from natural raw materials according to international specifications such as length, purity and moderate chemical condition in order to use them in all manual and mechanical repairing operations.

This department does the following:

 

 

 

Firstly : at the Center level

1-Routine and continuous observation of the various cultural materials (manuscripts-prints) and stating their conditions.

2-Full chemical & biological treatments.

3-Manual, mechanical and thermal repairing.

4-Islamic binding for manuscripts, and modern technical binding for prints.

5-Extracting pure cellulosed fibers for restoration.

6-Arranging studies required for developing work.

 

Secondly : at the Arab and international level

1-Organizing training courses in preservation, processing and restoration at Arab and international levels in the U. A. E. and abroad.

2-Participating in conferences and specialized workshops.

3-Providing restoration machines and necessary materials for several Arab and Islamic institutions which exceeds twenty in numbers.

4-Organizing technical exhibitions concerning Arabic Islamic manuscripts.
