Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage organized a workshop on Monday, 28 July 2025, titled “Governance and Its Impact on Improving Institutional Performance.” The session was delivered by Dr. Tarek Rashid, an institutional development expert and UN-accredited international consultant, with the participation of 28 trainees from various government and private entities.
Held as part of the Center’s Summer Cultural Program, the workshop aimed to introduce the concept of governance, its principles, and its importance in achieving institutional strategic objectives and ensuring resource sustainability amid today’s rapidly evolving challenges.
The workshop covered several key topics, including the importance of governance in institutions, its relationship with institutional performance, challenges of implementation, governance in light of digital transformation, and the role of leadership and senior management in supporting governance practices.
During the session, Dr. Rashid explained that “governance is a system of oversight and direction at the institutional level that defines responsibilities, rights, and relationships among all stakeholders. It outlines the rules and procedures necessary for making sound decisions related to the organization’s operations, enhancing fairness, transparency, and institutional accountability, and fostering trust and credibility in the workplace.”
He also highlighted the three main elements that contribute to achieving institutional performance through governance: a clear strategy, a documented system, and an effective organizational culture.
The workshop witnessed strong engagement from participants through practical exercises and interactive discussions. At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Mohamed Kamel Gad, Director General of the Center, expressed his appreciation to the speaker for his outstanding efforts and presented him with a certificate of appreciation. Certificates were also distributed to all participants.
