Delegation from Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) Visits Juma Al Majid Center

A delegation from Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) visited Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai. The purpose of the visit was to benefit from the center’s experience in document and image preservation and archiving. The delegation included Dr. Lubna Khalifa Suleibekh, Director of Corporate Communications at the company, Mr. Amir Haji Abdullah, Director of Company Services, and Mr. Abdullah Talal Al-Sada, the company’s Archives Officer.
The delegation was received by Dr. Mohamed Kamil Jad, the Director-General of the center, and Mr. Anwar Al Zahari, Head of the Public Relations Department. They were taken on a tour of the center’s digital imaging laboratory, where they learned about the processes of converting paper materials such as books, manuscripts, and documents into digital copies. The delegation also received a detailed explanation about the software used by the center for archiving images and documents.
At the end of the visit, the delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome and Dr. Lubna Khalifa, the head of the delegation, presented the center with a collection of historical seals. These seals are considered rare treasures owned by the company. Dr. Mohamed Kamil Jad, the Director-General of the center, received them with appreciation.
It’s worth mentioning that in 2019, the center digitized a collection of documents and maps belonging to Bahrain Petroleum Company. These documents were in critical condition, having remained at the bottom of the sea off the coast of Ireland in the North Atlantic Ocean for over 70 years, submerged at a depth of 4700 meters due to the sinking of the ship that carried them. The shipwreck was discovered in 2011 and the documents were recovered in 2013.
