As part of the summer cultural program organized by the Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage at its headquarters in Dubai, the Center held a virtual lecture on Thursday, 3 July 2025, entitled “Digital Transformation in the Resources and Services of Information Institutions.”
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mansour Abdullah Al-Zamil, Professor of Information Science at King Saud University.
The lecture focused on several main themes, including an introduction to the concept of digital transformation; an overview of information institutions, their resources, and services; the historical trajectory of digital transformation in these institutions; and a review of modern technologies and their role in accelerating the transformation process. The lecture also highlighted successful models and experiences in implementing digital transformation, the role of library and information specialists in leading this transformation, and insights into the future of information institutions amid rapid digital advancement.
During the session, Dr. Al-Zamil presented examples of leading Arab and international institutions that have successfully adopted digital transformation, including: the Libraries Commission under Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library in Dubai, King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) Library in Dhahran, Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai, Qatar National Library, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, as well as the University of Miami Library and Montgomery County Library in Virginia, USA.
Approximately 90 specialists and professionals in the field of libraries and information attended the lecture. They posed a number of questions and inquiries, which Dr. Al-Zamil addressed, emphasizing the importance of developing human competencies and digital technologies to ensure the sustainability of information institutions’ services and their ability to keep pace with the evolving demands of the modern era.
