Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage held a scholarly virtual discussion on Thursday, 29 January 2026, on its latest publication, the book “Andalusian Coins as a Source for the Political and Economic History of Al-Andalus (484–897 AH / 1091–1492 CE)”. The session featured the book’s author, Dr. Nahed Qarni Abdul Hamid, a historian and academic specializing in Islamic civilization, and was attended by a number of researchers and enthusiasts.
During the session, Dr. Nahed outlined three main themes, highlighting the book’s significance as an analytical historical study that takes Islamic coins as an active source for reinterpreting Andalusian political and economic history.
The first theme addressed Islamic coins as historical documents that reveal the nature of authority, political relationships, and sectarian orientations. The second theme examined the role of Andalusian mints in light of their political, economic, and quantitative data, supported by maps, tables, and charts. The third theme focused on the phenomenon of coin imitation and its impact on the disruption of the Andalusian monetary system and currency devaluation.
The session concluded with an interactive academic discussion, during which participants raised multiple questions that the researcher addressed based on the book’s methodology and findings.
