Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai participated in the activities of the second edition of the “Literary Expression Forum”, which was organized by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority over two days, from 11 to 12 December 2023 at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, with the participation of an elite group of speakers, senior officials and those interested in literature. .
The Center participated in the forum, the activities of which varied between dialogue sessions, workshops, exhibitions, and cultural evenings with a special exhibition on manuscript restoration, in which the Center displayed examples of original manuscript papers that had been damaged as a result of poor preservation, in addition to the tools used in the restoration of books, documents, and manuscripts. .
On the first day, the Center also presented a workshop on hand-manufacturing paper, which is the natural paper that the Center uses in restoring its manuscripts. The workshop witnessed great interaction from the public, as many attendees participated in manufacturing the paper themselves.
On the second day of the forum’s activities, the Center held another workshop on restoring manuscripts and documents manually, explaining to the public the injuries that manuscripts are exposed to, such as tearing and wear in the papers, and explaining how the restorer restores the lost part using natural paper made in the Center’s restoration factory.
