Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage, in collaboration with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, organized a virtual lecture On Wednesday, May 6, 2026 titled “The Rare Book: A Reading in Standards and Bibliography.” The lecture, presented by Fahad Ali Al Maamari, was attended by a number of interested individuals and specialists in the field.
The lecture aimed to raise awareness of the importance of rare books as part of cultural and intellectual heritage, as well as to highlight the concepts and definitions related to this field.
During the lecture, Fahad Al Maamari discussed the criteria and standards used to define a rare book, including the age of its printing, first editions of books from the mid-15th century to the end of the 19th century, and publications from historical libraries dating back to the mid-19th century.
He also addressed the concept of the rare Emirati book and its criteria, presenting a bibliography of several rare book titles. At the end of the lecture, the floor was opened for discussion, during which the attendees interacted with the topic by asking a number of questions and inquiries, which were answered by the lecturer.
