The Seventh Course in Documentation and Archives

Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai concluded the seventh training course in documentation and archiving science, with the participation of 38 trainees from 18 governmental and private institutions.
This year’s course stood out for its relevance to the needs of institutions interested in documentation and archiving, focusing on the theme: “The International Standard for Archival Description ISAD(G) and Artificial Intelligence.”
The course was led by Dr. Taha Mohamed Nour Abu Al-Khair, Scientific Supervisor of Documentation and Archiving at the Center, along with a group of the Center’s specialized staff. The training covered three main topics:
1. An introduction to archival description, the ISAD(G) standard, its significance, components, principles, and relationship to other description standards.
2. Practical training on applying the ISAD(G) standard, including analysis of descriptive examples and implementation in both traditional and digital archival environments.
3. Mechanisms and phases of integrating artificial intelligence into digital archival description systems, detailing the AI techniques used in the integration and implementation plans.
Dr. Hamad Al-Mutairi, Director of the Archives and National Library Department in the UAE, also delivered a remote lecture discussing the use of emerging technologies in document and archive management, highlighting future visions in the field.
At the closing ceremony, His Excellency Juma Al Majid, Chairman of the Center, delivered a recorded speech congratulating the participants on their graduation and encouraging them to continue pursuing knowledge and applying their newly acquired skills to advance their institutions.
Dr. Mohamed Kamel Jad, Director General of the Center, expressed his gratitude to the participants for their dedication and full attendance, and he distributed certificates to them.

The course featured representatives from leading institutions, including: the Dubai Center for Historical Documents, Department of Antiquities in Umm Al Quwain, the Executive Council of Dubai Government, Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, Sharjah Police Academy, Sharjah Institute for Heritage, the National Records and Archives Authority of Oman, the Supreme Judicial Council of Oman, Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, Sharjah Department of Social Services, the Museum and Military History Center in Abu Dhabi, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, the University of Al Wasl, and House of Wisdom.
