Dr. Naji Bakirci, Director of the “Mevlana” Museum in Konya, Turkey, explored the possibility of collaboration between the museum and the Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai in the field of manuscript and document preservation and restoration. This took place during his visit to the center on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
During the visit, Dr. Naji met with Dr. Bassam Dagestani, Head of the Preservation, Processing, and Restoration Department, who briefed him on the preservation, treatment, and restoration processes carried out by the center for all types of paper-based materials, including manuscripts, documents, and books.
Dr. Naji requested the center’s support in providing the “Mevlana” Museum with a specialized manuscript restoration laboratory, as well as training the museum’s technical staff. He mentioned that the museum houses three thousand original manuscripts, along with thousands of Ottoman documents and letters dating back to the 13th century Hijri.
It is worth noting that in 2008, the Juma Al Majid Center had donated a fully-equipped restoration laboratory to the central library in Konya, as part of an agreement between the two parties.
